1. R-22 Refrigerant is being phased out and is not Eco Friendly

If your air conditioner was installed before 2010, it likely uses R-22 refrigerant (commonly known as “FREON”) which will no longer be produced or imported after January 1, 2020. Why? Use of R-22 refrigerant was determined to be harmful to the ozone layer. Therefore, as older air conditioning units experience leaks which prevent them from cooling effectively, adding R-22 refrigerant is a common solution.  However, because of the demand for R-22 and its reduce availability, prices for R-22 have increased significantly.

2. Better Energy Efficiency

Do you like saving money?  A newly manufactured AC unit should be significantly more energy efficient than ones that were manufactured 10 or more years ago thereby saving you money on your monthly energy bill. Depending on the Seer rated unit you select, you could save more in energy costs with a higher SEER rated unit. Typically, you’ll be able to choose a SEER rating from 13 to 22, depending upon the manufacturer.

3. The Uncertainty of Failure

Once your AC unit gets beyond a certain age (12-15+ years), even with regular maintenance, you have an increased risk that the unit will fail. Also keep in mind that during the Arizona Summer months, HVAC companies are at their busiest.
