Is there Really an AC Shortage in Arizona?

As we enter the Summer of 2021, there is indeed a shortage of residential air conditioning units in Arizona (as well as most of the U.S.).

Why is there are shortage of AC units?

As you may have guessed, the COVID pandemic of 2020 had caused health and safety concerns, which resulted in the temporary closure of a number of HVAC manufacturing facilities. This in turn has created a shortage due to a reduced supply of central air conditioning & heating units available with demand remaining high.

How does the AC Shortage Affect Me?

The shortage of AC units means that many if not most HVAC contractors will have fewer or none at all. Additionally, the cost of materials (such as copper, aluminum, steel and even plastic) needed to manufacture AC units has risen dramatically over the past several months as well due to a shortage of these materials.

What this all means is that if you have an aging HVAC system (15 years or older), and are now in the market to install a new air conditioning system, you may not be able to get a new unit installed right away. In fact, you may have to wait several weeks to a few months. Additionally, you will have to pay the higher cost of the new AC units when they do become available to purchase.
