5 Signs Your Furnace May Need Service
As we enter the New Year here in Phoenix, AZ, temperatures will dip low enough to necessitate the use of a home’s heating system, particularly at night. However, many homeowners may not recognize some telltale signs that their furnace may be in need of service.
That’s why our team at Eagle Air have put together a list of the 5 signs you may need service before a more serious system failure occurs. Here are the things you should watch out for this winter which may be a good reason to schedule an appointment with our heating repair technicians:
Spotty Airflow
You should have consistent, evenly distributed heating throughout your home. If this is not the case, particularly if you notice a large disparity in temperatures from room to room, it may be time to call us to schedule an appointment.
Thermostat Inaccuracies
Your thermostat may not be giving an accurate temperature readings for a number of reasons.
It could be that your thermostat may not be located in the best place within your home so that it is able to give an accurate temperature reading. For example, if your thermostat located on a wall where it gets direct sunlight or near any other source of heat or cold drafts, it will not provide an accurate temperature reading.
Pilot Light Color
When your furnace is functioning correctly, the pilot light should appear blue in color. If this is not the case, then it’s likely that the amount of oxygen reaching your pilot light is restricted to some degree, which may cause it to look yellow rather than blue.
Short Cycling
When a furnace is short cycling, this means that it is turning on and off quite frequently with little time between on and off. This can be due to your system overheating, a flame sensor going bad, a dirty furnace filter, blockage of some sort in the exhaust vent or heat grates or even that your furnace is simply oversized for your home.
Not Enough Heat
If you find that your home is never warm enough no matter how high you turn up the thermostat, you have a problem. This could be because your heater is not appropriately sized for your home.
