7 Tips That Can Reduce Your Energy Bill

Would you like to reduce your home energy costs in the Spring and Summer? Well, you’re not alone!  Many Valley residents begin thinking about ways to lower their energy bills when the weather begins to warm up.  So, we’ll give you a few tips that can help you save money on your energy bills while running your air conditioner in the Summer.

Minimize energy use during peak times

One of the easiest things you can do to reduce your energy bill is to simply minimize (or avoid altogether) operating your appliances during peak hours of the day. Your utility provider (APS, SRP, etc.)  should be able to provide you with a schedule of peak times, but generally speaking, that is typically from 2 pm to 8 pm.

Use your ceiling fans

Ceiling fans are a great way to economize on home energy consumption during the Spring and Summer.   Using your ceiling fans throughout your home can enable you to raise your thermostat three or four degrees higher.  And that in turn can help reduce your electric bill while still keeping your home comfortably cool.

Open your windows whenever possible

Particularly in the evenings when it’s a little cooler, you may be able to turn off your air conditioner and instead, open your windows to enjoy a cross-breeze.

Install new sun screens

If you’ve had your sun screens for several years, it’s likely that they’ve faded and the fibers have broken down, making them much less effective in blocking the intense heat from the Sun. The heat entering your windows can really drive up your energy costs.  Try installing new sun screens which will be much better at blocking out the Sun’s heat, which will reduce your energy costs.

Cook your meals outside

When you use your oven or stove to cook your meals, you can really heat up your home because it not only raises the temperature in your kitchen, but also a connecting room or two. Instead, use an outdoor grill to do your Spring and Summer cooking so that you don’t have to consume more energy toyou’re your air conditioner even harder.

Change your Air Filters

Did you know that clean air filters in your AC system enhance better airflow, thereby reducing energy consumption by as much as 20%.

Service your air conditioner

We recommend that each Spring, you hire a qualified AC technician to perform maintenance checks on your air to ensure that it is working correctly and efficiently.
